Question 1

How do international and non-EU customers get 0% VAT exemption at netcup?

Accepted Answer

Under German Tax Law (UStG § 3a), customers residing outside the European Union (e.g. US, UK, Canada, China, Singapore) are legally exempt from German 19% Value Added Tax. When registering on netcup.com, select your actual country of residence. The billing engine will automatically identify your international status and calculate your invoice at 0% VAT net pricing. No manual email verification or document KYC is required for standard signups. Crucial note: Always verify your cart shows 0% VAT before paying — netcup strictly does not refund VAT retroactively once an invoice is settled.

Question 2

How do I redeem voucher codes, and can they be auto-applied?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Clicking 'Redeem at Netcup Store' or 'Copy' on our site opens the official Netcup cart with the ?gutschein=CODE parameter pre-applied. The discount will attach automatically. The code is also copied to your clipboard so you can paste it into the Voucher/Gutschein field if needed. Each new order can use one voucher code. Most codes are single-use; if a code displays as already used, try the next available backup code from our live pool.

Question 3

What is the difference between Netcup Root Servers and VPS?

Accepted Answer

Both are KVM virtualization instances. Root Servers feature 100% dedicated AMD EPYC physical cores with no CPU oversubscription (CPU steal = 0%), and official SLA permits continuous 24/7 100% full-load operation. Standard VPS instances feature pooled vCores shared with other host users; they provide exceptional value for typical web servers and Docker containers, but sustained multi-day 100% CPU spikes may be dynamically throttled. For heavy compilation, video encoding, and intensive databases, always choose Root Server.

Question 4

Does netcup automatically terminate my server if I stop paying?

Accepted Answer

No! Netcup operates under German Civil Code (BGB) contract law. Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing term unless a formal cancellation (Kündigung) is submitted in the Customer Control Panel (CCP) at least 30 days before the renewal date. If you simply abandon the server and refuse payment, you will receive escalating payment reminders (Mahnung) with late fees, eventually leading to European debt collection agencies (Inkasso). Always submit a timely cancellation in CCP.

Question 5

What are the bandwidth and traffic limits at Netcup?

Accepted Answer

European datacenters (Nuremberg and Vienna) feature completely unmetered monthly traffic with zero bandwidth overage bills. Fair-use is governed by a 24-hour sliding window: Root Servers pushing over 3 TB in 24 hours are temporarily throttled to 300 Mbps; VPS pushing over 2 TB in 24 hours are temporarily throttled to 200 Mbps; Lite tiers are throttled to 100 Mbps. As soon as your 24h rolling average drops below the threshold, full 2.5 Gbps / 1 Gbps speed is automatically restored. You will never receive surprise overage fees.

Question 6

Can I install Windows Server on Netcup?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Netcup does not force costly Windows licensing fees. You can mount official Windows Server evaluation ISOs directly from the Server Control Panel (SCP) with 180-day trial licenses, or upload your own custom ISO with VirtIO drivers integrated. Drivers for storage and virtio-net are readily available in SCP.

Question 7

What payment methods does Netcup accept?

Accepted Answer

Netcup accepts PayPal, major Credit/Debit Cards, and SEPA direct debit for European bank accounts. PayPal and Credit Cards are the most popular options for international users and can be saved for automatic recurring billing in CCP.
